According to surveys, Americans still prefer the political middle to the extreme positions offered by public commentators. Pointing this out has not led to a solution, since polarized media and politicians control the public dialogue these days.
Politicians know that many voters are in the middle, but those who move toward the middle are attacked in the media as “far right”. Can non-political moderates do anything about this? What are we supposed to do? Just wait to see who wins?
What is going on? I think a cold civil war is actually in progress, and that many who engage in political dialogue are truly at war. Most Americans would rather be at peace, but waiting out a war could be more risky than choosing a side.
What is a Cold Civil War?
Some describe our current political situation as a “cold civil war”, because public commentary has become overstated and vicious. Public figures are attacked and abused even when clearly doing good acts. The Institute of World Politics (IWP) says the mainstream media repeatedly calling Trump “Hitler” for no real reason and a “traitor” for saying something nice about Putin are “massive mental distortions”. IWP points out that Hitler invaded a bunch of countries and murdered 7 million Jews. Roosevelt hugged Stalin while making deals, and Nixon did the same with Mao while the media applauded.
In our polarized setting, prosecutors indict their political opponents while refusing to prosecute actual crimes. Mainstream commentators report incendiary riots and looting as “mostly peaceful”. Many journalists have become pure advocates, suspending professional standards and ethics, in favor of a “take no prisoners” approach.
The cold civil war seemed very one-sided during the COVID shutdowns as people were trapped in their homes listening to mainstream media describing closed schools as “necessary”, and incendiary riots and looting as “mostly peaceful”. The idea that COVID may have escaped from a large, very near-by, virus research center was seen as “harmful misinformation”, so harmful that people asking the question were immediately silenced, de-platformed, de-banked, and de-listed. This hostile treatment, without due process, was extended to anyone seen by those in power as being “on the wrong side”. Doesn’t this sound like a wartime move?
A college president (Larry Arn) recently gave a speech entitled “It’s 1861”, likening today to the year the US Civil War began. These examples may not prove it, but they certainly suggest a war-like atmosphere. On top of this, what if I told you we have already had a revolution and a counter-revolution is underway?
America’s Cultural Revolution
A guy named Chris Rufo has written a book called America’s Cultural Revolution: How The Radical Left Conquered Everything, claiming a revolution has already occurred! Rufo reports that a cadre of left-wing intellectuals and activists began a revolution in the 1960s that eventually captured a majority of American institutions.
This would not surprise anyone observing the recent embrace of DEI/CRT by universities, the media, large organizations, and the entertainment world. (If you’ve been living underground, DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, while CRT is an acronym for Critical Race Theory.)
Most are aware that activists have been advocating critical race theory, gender cultism, DEI, and the elimination of police, borders, rich white people, and lately, Jews. Traditionalists and conservatives tried to preserve previous American norms, but, according to Rufo’s title, the revolution is over, and the radical left won. Rufo’s title is a bit misleading in that he is actively engaged in counter-revolution trying to restore US education standards.
Seeds of Counter-Revolution
Until recently, people in the middle ignored culture wars, thinking cultural changes like DEI/CRT would not affect their lives. They could go to work, do their job, take care of their family, watch sports and old movies, and things would be OK. When they noticed that the “cultural revolution” was not limited to college campuses, truly peaceful demonstrations, and weird movies, regular folks began to mobilize.
NOTE: The DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) movement is entirely based on critical race theory. CRT clearly states that the success of America, England, and western Europe was derived from racial privilege, and this success must be undone by revolution. As accurately reported by Douglass Murray in The War on the West, the stated goal of DEI/CRT advocates is the dissolution of Western Civilization, especially its most odious form, the American way of life. This Marxian ideology would seem pretty threatening to lots of people, not to mention “war-like”.
Is The Cultural Revolution Really Over?
If the revolution WERE over, then there would be no evidence of civil war. That fact that a substantial counter-revolution is underway was evidenced by the 2024 election. In 2024, 30 states, and counties comprising 84% of the USA land mass, voted “red” (Republican). The 1960s cultural revolution captured universities, institutions, the media, movies, and Wall Street, but failed to capture Main Street in most states.
The mainstream media would like you to believe that any counter-revolution must consist of a hundred million non-college-educated “deplorables” standing around a guy in a red hat and tie with funny hair, but there is more to it than that.
Leaders of the Counter-Revolution
The counter-revolution is led by high-powered intellects including Thomas Sowell, Douglas Murray, Victor Davis Hanson, Jordan Peterson, Niall Ferguson, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Christopher Rufo, Heather McDonald, Glen Loury, James Lindsay, and TV personalities including Glen Beck, Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, Peter Robinson, and Dave Rubin. Objective commentators in independent (non-corporate) media, not counter-revolutionaries, who provide strong support for the counter-revolution include Megyn Kelly, Bill O’Reilly, Bari Weiss, and Joe Rogan.
I wanted to write this without much mention of a narcissistic, old guy with a red hat and tie and funny hair, who belittles his opponents and brags a lot, because the cold, civil war is not about this guy. He is not its leader. He just happens to be in the center of it. He has said himself: “They’re not after me, they’re after you. I just happen to be standing in the way.”
If you haven’t heard of most of the leaders of this counter-revolution, it is because you get your information from mainstream media (NY Times, Washington Post, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, NPR) owned by large corporations (or government). The owners control the broadcast content and strongly discourage any mention of counter-revolutionaries or independent media. “Independent media” (not owned by large corporations) operate mainly online and now exceed mainstream media in influence, as they roll back the cultural revolution one brick at a time.
If you would like to learn more about any of the counter-revolutionaries listed, all you need do is Google them. One suggestion: It is usually better to hear what they say instead of what Wikipedia says about them. To do that, Google “YouTube” along with the person’s name.
I appreciate your listening, and hope some time I can say to you what Victor Lazlo says to Rick Blaine at the end of Casablanca, “Welcome Back to the Fight”.
